But a lot of people have acknowledged and agreed that the pay does not compensate for the amount of time you spend completing Hits online. So the question is, “How can you make the most from Amazon Mturk?”
Continue reading to find out what HITs pay more and how you can achieve this.
What is Amazon Mturk?
Before I get into exactly how you can make the most with Amazon Mturk, I must explain exactly what Amazon Mturk is. Amazon Mechanical Turk otherwise known as (Mturk) is a place where workers can do various tasks for either Amazon gift cards, cash credit to purchase items on Amazon, or direct deposit into your bank account.
Amazon Mturk launched its official website back in 2005 so that means that it has been around for 10 years! Although Amazon Mturk is affiliated with Amazon, Amazon itself has nothing to do with the work that is offered on this platform.
It is important to note that you are not part of the Amazon staff in any way or form if you do work for Amazon Mechanical Turk.
What kind of work does Amazon Mturk offer?
Amazon Mturk is a crowdsourcing marketplace where users/workers can complete a variety of HITs short for human intelligence tasks in exchange for payment. Some of the hits include but are not limited to:
- Data Entry
- Watching Videos
- Research and more
Who can apply to Amazon Mturk?
According to Amazon Mturk’s official website, they state that they hire from the US as well as internationally. This was true a few years ago but now they only allow workers from the US to work on their HITs.
How much can you earn per HIT?
The pay to work on these HITs is low. Some start at as little as $0.01 per HIT up to $60 or more per HIT. I have worked on several HITs for Amazon Mturk and the pay varies but it has never been over $4 a hit. I normally participate in the surveys, type in grocery receipts/business cards, watch and rate YouTube videos, rate music, and more. Some turkers or workers have been able to $100 every 2 weeks completing HITS on Mturk but they have spent quite a lot of time in order to achieve this. If you want to see exactly how much some Turkers make on Amazon, make sure you read their comments here.
How can you earn More Money per HIT?
One of the things that you can do to make more money on Amazon Mturk is to take their qualifications. This can lead to higher-paying HITs but there is no guarantee that you will achieve any special HITs or qualifications. You can earn a quick $4 to $5 dollars completing surveys there but just keep in mind that there may not be any new surveys added every day. Some new surveys are added every few days or even a week at a time.
You can also try doing usability tests for companies like TryMyUI on Amazon Mturk. They are similar to the tests that you would complete for Usertesting where you will visit a particular website and browse around the site sharing your honest opinions and feedback about the navigation aspects of the site and other details. These HITs pay $10 and take no more than 20 minutes of your time.
The best way to make money and mainstream income from Amazon Mturk is by doing transcription jobs. This is basically converting audio dictated files to written format. These audio files can come from doctors, lawyers, teachers, or paralegals. Please also note that the files that you listen to are not always easy to hear and sometimes trying to figure out what the person is saying is rather difficult. But if you can overcome this, you can earn $40 up to $60 and sometimes more depending upon the urgency and need for transcribing audio and video.
In order to make the most with transcribing on Mturk, you will need to have a very good typing speed, be able to hear the person clearly, take hardly any breaks and be very efficient. If you want a list of companies that hire you to do transcription from home, click here.
My Thoughts on Amazon Mturk
If you have never worked from home before or you just want some side income, Amazon Mturk could be a good place to start but I wouldn’t count on this site for full-time income. Working HITs on Mturk part-time could earn you around $200 a month or more if you put more time into it. If you want to get closer to a full-time income, transcribing would definitely be the route to take. You could even try applying to Amazon directly as a customer service associate assisting their customers with any questions or inquiries they may have. This job pays you an hourly rate of $10 and you can apply online here.
